Fireplace Talks (FPT) series is an initiative of the UM Campus Brussels team, which aims to create an open space for conversation between academics, practitioners and the audience. Each Fireplace Talk evening will cover a big topic on global issues or a trending theme. By bringing together an academic and a practitioner, we hope to provide different angels on the discussed theme by looking at it from a theoretical perspective and a more empirical view. Questions from the audience will be primal for stirring the discussion in the direction of interest to the participants and for gaining some relevant insights on the topic.
During this first edition of our Fireplace Talks on Big Data, we will hear from two Maastricht University professors - Michel Dumontier, Professor of Data Science at the recently established Institute of Data Science, and Sally Wyatt, Professor of Digital Cultures at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Although both are representing academia, they have different points of view on the topic of data sharing. This will lead to interesting exchanges and will open your mind to ideas you may not have thought about just yet. The professors will each give a short presentation in order to stimulate a discussion on the opportunities and challenges posed by more and open data.
The discussion will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Christine Neuhold, political scientist and Director of the UM Campus Brussels. Join us for a pleasant discussion after work accompanied by drinks and snacks.
Registration is free of charge, however, places are limited. Please register by following the link below:
